Differences in properties and classification characteristics between microfiber leather and regular leather
PU, microfiber, technical fabric, and eco-friendly leather are all actually synthetic leathers.
We generally refer to products that are artificially produced to resemble genuine leather as artificial leather. Artificial leather comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns. The thickness of the leather used as sofa upholstery is generally around 1.0-1.2mm, while the thickness of the imitation leather used with genuine leather is generally around 0.6-0.8mm. The standard width is 1.37-1.45 meters.

Artificial leather typically consists of two layers: a top layer, usually made of materials like PVC, PU or silicone, to mimic the feel and texture of genuine leather; and a base layer, usually made of elastic fabric, to which the top layer adheres. Due to the nature of its basic structure, most artificial leathers will experience surface layer peeling with use and friction—what is commonly referred to as flaking or shedding. High-quality artificial leather typically has a lifespan of about 2-3 years.
Microfiber leather is a type of artificial leather without pores, so its texture is more uniform and regular. It is also more waterproof and can be cleaned with water or household alcohol. It is easier to remove oil stains and has good resistance to acids and alkalis, making it less prone to mold.
Although it's synthetic, microfiber leather boasts excellent abrasion resistance and flexibility, with moisture absorption and breathability very close to genuine leather. It feels soft, smooth, and comfortable to the touch.
Microfiber leather is currently the most technologically advanced synthetic leather available. Compared to genuine leather, it's more durable; typical microfiber leather can last 3-5 years, while high-quality pieces can last even longer.
